Inspiration

This is delicate yet punchy seafood seasoning was created in the MTOS test kitchen. It combines herb forenotes with spicy, citrusy backnotes. In addition to its myriad of health benefits – provided by the incredible Aleppo Pepper – it also pairs perfectly with delicate seafoods, yet is robust enough to stand up to chicken and vegetables as well. The below recipe will leave you with a bunch to save for later.

ALEPPO PEPPER FACTS:
Used throughout the Mediterranean regions and the Middle East for its moderate heat and sweet fruitiness, the Aleppo pepper is now used around the world for its numerous health benefits, including: Improving and aiding your vision, immune system, digestion, metabolism and weight loss. It has also been shown to enhance your cardiovascular health, reduce inflammation, help control diabetes. It can even detoxify your body, improve your brain health and prevent certain types fo cancers. This is one sweet, hot pepper!

Ingredients

  • Thyme (4 tsp)
  • Dried sage (3 tsp)
  • Aleppo pepper (3 tsp)
  • Sesame seeds (2 tsp)
  • Onion powder (1 tsp)
  • Dried oregano (½ tsp)
  • Dried parsley (½ tsp)
  • Salt (½ tsp, to taste)
  • Black pepper (½ tsp, to taste)

FLAVOR COMPLIMENTS:
Try garnishing your creations made with this spice blend with vibrant herbs and greens such as chives, dill or chopped green onions, toasted nuts or seeds such as pine nuts or pumpkin seeds, or the citrus zest from fruits such as lemons, limes or oranges.

Preparations

  1. Mix all ingredients and use immediately or store in an airtight container in cool, dark place.

Tips

  • Stored properly this spice blend will retain most of its flavor for 2 years.
  • Try kicking up the heat and changing the flavor profile with Szechuan peppercorns, Gochugaru powered, or wasabi powder.
