Inspiration

Experience the wonderful flavors of the Caribbean with this unique and spicy Jamaican jerk seasoning blend. Traditionally used with chicken, but this flavor-packed spice blend is versatile, enhancing the taste of any recipe – from barbecued fish to vegetables. Additionally, the ingredients are flexible, so feel free to experiment.

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp onion powder
  • 2 tsp brown sugar
  • 2 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 2 tsp dried thyme (or 1 tsp ground thyme)
  • 2 tsp ground black pepper
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp dried parsley
  • 1 tsp ground allspice
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp ground clove
  • ½ tsp ground nutmeg
  • ½ tsp hot pepper flakes
  • ¼ tsp ground cumin
  • Optional: 1 scotch bonnet, finely chopped

FIREY HEAT TIP:
I like it spicy, so I always opt for the chopped-up scotch bonnet, but if you’re in the mood for some mind-altering heat, try part of a chopped-up Carolina Reaper.

Preparations

  1. Add all the ingredients to a small mixing bowl and blend until well combined.

Tips

  • Store in an airtight container.

TIME-SAVING TIP:
Prepared Jamaican jerk seasoning is available as a paste or dry rub.
