More Than Our Story

Triathlon Tips: Overview

Medals from team More Than Our Story IRONMAN 70.3 Atlantic City, September 2023.

Series Introduction

I completed my first IRONMAN 70.3 in Indian Wells, December 2021. Those of you who have crossed the finishing line know – once is never enough – so as expected, upon returning home I began planning my next races. Since then I have completed two more IRONMAN 70.3s – Muskoka and Atlantic City – and countless other races. I also have two more 70.3’s planned for this summer: Eagleman (Maryland) and Mussleman (upstate New York).

Taking on a triathlon is a tremendous undertaking. Not just one, but three sports need to be honed and perfected for the longer distances. The dedication and time required not just for training, but all aspects of life can be overwhelming. The constant dance of balancing work, family and training can be tough enough when it comes to preparing for a 70.3, but I’ve set my sights on IRONMAN Arizona this coming November. This will be my first full-distance IRONMAN – that’s 140.6 miles – a 2.4 mile swim, followed by a 112 mile bike ride, ending with a 26.2 mile marathon run. In case that wasn’t challenging enough, today I started chemotherapy again for brain cancer which I have been fighting for over 3 years now, and will still be in treatment come race time. With all these things happening this year I thought it fitting to make this year’s fitness series: Triathlon Tips.

Each month we will focus on one aspect of the three disciplines: swimming, biking and running, and I will be providing updates on my race season along the way. Hopefully I will stay healthy, injury free and able to reach to starting line in November, because if I manage that, I’ve already won.

Daniel

Daniel is an extremely curious person, a wealth of random knowledge and facts. Extremely passionate about a vast array of interests ranging from health to history, science to athletics, everything culinary and the list goes on. Trust us, you would want to be on his team for Trivial Pursuit. Daniel is also years into his battle with brain cancer. He experienced a seizure while on a Zoom call at work in late 2020 and quite literally, his life changed within minutes. After his operation he started to talk about his story but had always known it was more than just him. From then, More Than Our Story became a PROJECT that has evolved into the starting point it is today.
