Inspiration

This hearty and flavorful chili is made with ground turkey, making it rich in protein, lower in fat, and a healthier option without sacrificing taste. This dish is the definition of a well-rounded, comforting winter meal.

Ingredients

  • Ground turkey (2lbs, ~1kg)
  • 2 yellow onions, diced
  • 1 large can of canned, diced tomatoes (28oz, 796ml)
  • 1 can black beans, rinsed (19oz, 540ml)
  • 1 can kidney beans, rinsed (19oz, 540ml)
  • 2 jalapeño peppers (stemmed, chopped, seeded if desired)
  • 2 poblano peppers (stemmed, chopped, seeded if desired)
  • 2 serrano peppers (stemmed, chopped, seeded if desired)
  • Chilli powder (3-4 tbsp)
  • Badia Complete Garlic seasoning (2 tbsp)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

NO BADIA?
Just use a combination of dried herbs including oregano, parsley, and thyme, and some garlic and onion powder.

Preparations

  1. Sear turkey, onion, peppers, and Badia until meat is cooked and onions and peppers are soft.
  2. Add tomatoes, beans, and chili powder, and simmer for 30 minutes to allow the flavors to develop.
  3. Salt and pepper to taste before serving.

YES TO TURKEY:
Using ground turkey instead of ground beef offers several health and practical benefits:

  • Lower in Fat and Calories: Ground turkey, especially lean or extra-lean varieties, typically contains less saturated fat and fewer calories than ground beef.
  • Heart-Healthier: Lower saturated fat levels can contribute to better heart health by helping to maintain healthy cholesterol levels.
  • Protein-Rich: Ground turkey provides a substantial amount of protein, essential for muscle repair, immune function, and overall body maintenance.
  • Versatility: Ground turkey absorbs flavors well and is an excellent substitution for ground beef in various dishes, including burgers, meatballs, tacos, and casseroles.
  • Cost-Effective: Ground turkey is often cheaper than ground beef, making it a budget-friendly choice.
  • Lower Carbon Footprint: Poultry farming generally has a lower carbon footprint than beef production, so opting for ground turkey can be a more environmentally sustainable choice.

Tips

  • Top with sour cream, and serve with toasted, buttered bread for a warm, comforting meal.
