Dr. George Ackerman
Dr. George Ackerman advocates for increased awareness of Parkinson's disease in memory of his late mother who passed from this terrible affliction.
My brother-in-law, Eric Duplain, has always held a special place in my heart. Not only is he a shining example of generosity and selflessness – he also possesses sheer determination and talent – evidenced by his desire and drive to master whatever he sets his mind to. Inspired by a work colleague, Eric started running in 2007 and over the next 8 years ran in and completed 7 marathons and 1 ultra marathon – the inaugural Laura Secord Memorial 100K – a 100km trail run through the Bruce Trail systems of the Niagara region.
Since 2015, Eric’s racing days have been behind him – until recently. Knowing that I signed up for the TCS Toronto Waterfront Marathon on October 15th, he wanted to show his support for me by lacing up his shoes again and running alongside me (or to be honest, well in front). As if that wasn’t enough, he also started a fundraising effort for the Odette Cancer Center at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto – one of the largest cancer programs in North America – and where I am currently undergoing treatment for brain cancer. I don’t want to speak for him – so here are his original words:
Hello you all!
On October 15th I will be running the Toronto Waterfront Marathon to support my brother-in-law Daniel Hight who will be doing his first marathon. Daniel is currently undergoing treatment for brain cancer at the Odette Cancer Centre at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto. And as long as running, as well as raising funds for cancer research to make a real difference.
It is with humility and gratitude that I ask for donations to support my participation in this race with Daniel. Thanks to your contributions, every step forward, on the road and in the labs, will help us advance better care and ultimately cures.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
Eric
I am lucky to have a brother-in-law so fiercely loyal and such a true friend for life. Please respectfully share this link for the both of us, and help make a real difference.
