Inspiration

We’ve all heard about the viral pork dumpling lasagna recipe, which combines traditional flavors into a layered, cozy dish resembling pork dumplings, so we decided to try it. Not only was it simple, but it was also the best thing I’ve tasted so far this year. Remember, this recipe is only a guideline; get creative!

PLANT-BASED OPTIONS:
You can use tofu, tempeh, plant-based ground meat, or mushrooms to replicate the texture and flavor of ground meat. For extra veggies, try shredded cabbage, carrots, or bamboo shoots.

Ingredients

Mixture

  • 1 pound, lean ground pork
  • 3 tsp sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tsp minced garlic
  • 2 tsp minced ginger
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • Dumpling wrappers (wonton wrappers will do too)
  • 2 tbsp (30ml) of water per ramkien
  • Optional: 1-2 teaspoons oyster sauce

Toppings

  • 2 tbsp spicy chili oil
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • ¼ cup chopped green onions
  • Sesame seeds

Preparations

Building

  1. In a large bowl, combine your mixture ingredients.
  2. In a ramekin, add a layer of dumpling wrappers, then a layer of dumpling mixture, then repeat.
  3. Add water (2 tbsp per ramiken)
  4. Top with a final layer of dumpling wrappers.
  5. The top dumpling wrapper should be pressed down and submerged in the water.
  6. Repeat for all your ramekins.

MEAL-PREP TIP:
These are great for meal prepping. Use foil takeout trays and skip adding water. Cover the take-out tray, place it in an airtight bag, or vacuum-pack it, then freeze. Thaw overnight in the fridge before cooking.

Cooking (or Packaging)

  1. Place ramekins in a large pot and add water halfway up the sides. Cover with a lid and steam for about 15 minutes, or until cooked through.

Building

  1. Add toppings, serve, and enjoy!

Tips

  • You can use any ground meat you like: turkey, beef, or chicken.
  • Press down each layer as you build to remove air pockets and help distribute the water.
