Inspiration

We absolutely love going out for sushi and while it is the sashimi that I crave, one of my favorite unsung heroes is the miso dressing on the starter salad they serve! When I lived in Yorkville Sushi Inn was my go to and I would always ask for extra dressing when I got takeout but was never able to figure out what went into it to make it so darn good until now! It has the kick of the garlic, the tang from the ginger and the bright orange color from the carrots and it is ridiculously good. So good in fact that I use it as a sauce on so many other things aside from my salad so I highly recommend you give this a try.

NUTRITIONAL BENEFITS OF MISO:
Miso is a superfood. Like other fermented foods, it contains probiotics to support a healthy digestive system. It also contains all the amino acids needed to make a complete protein source.

HEART HEALTHY ASIAN PEARS:
Did you know that the fiber in Asian pears can bind to LDL cholesterol and help carry it out of your system, keeping your cholesterol levels lower. Asian pears also contain potassium, which is connected to lower blood pressure, making them a heart-healthy snack.

Ingredients

  • 3 garlic cloves
  • ½ cup fresh ginger, peeled and sliced
  • 1 medium carrot, peeled and chopped
  • 1 ½ golden asian pears, peeled, cored and sliced
  • ½ cup rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp miso past
  • 2 tbsp white sugar (optional)
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 cup avocado oil

GET MARINATING:
Try marinating beef in this sauce, as the asian pears contain enzymes that tenderize the proteins in the meat.

Preparations

  1. Place all ingredients into a blender or a food processor and blend until smooth. Consistency is key – it should have a creamy texture so be sure to give it time to thoroughly blend all of the ingredients together.

Tips

  • Can’t find golden asian pears? Just use your favorite sweet apple variety: Fuji, Honeycrisp, Gala, Golden Delicious, and Red Delicious apples.
  • This is an incredibly versatile dressing, so get creative.
  • Store sealed in the fridge for up to 3-4 days.
