Inspiration

While I love the thought of baking things from scratch at home, it can often feel quite daunting and time consuming but this recipe is none of those! These are so simple and easy to make and absolutely kid friendly to participate. I also love that once you have the basics to make the bagels, you can truly add whatever you want and can bake up a full variety to appease all tastebuds. They have no yeast, there is no kneading and they have a sneaky amount of protein in them so they have definitely been a repeat recipe in our home!

GLUTEN SENSITIVITY:
Gluten is a proteins that’s found in foods containing wheat, barley or rye. Consuming it can harm people with celiac disease and non-celiac gluten sensitivity (NCGS). People allergic to wheat also need to avoid gluten. This recipe is completely gluten-free and safe for people who are gluten intolerant.

CELIAC DISEASE:
Celiac disease is an illness caused by an immune reaction to eating gluten. People with celiac disease often experience digestive symptoms including stomach discomfort, bloating, diarrhea and constipation. Non-digestive symptoms can also including chronic inflammation, fatigue, depression, anemia, skin rashes and weight loss.

Ingredients

Bagels

  • 3 cups flour (you can use any type of flour, oat, gluten free…)
  • 3 cups Greek yogurt
  • ¼ cup baking powder
  • 1 ½ cups shredded cheese
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 egg, broken and stirred

Toppings

This is where you can get creative! We added even more cheese on top, and put everything bagel spice on some, but you can add whatever you like including: seeds (poppy, sesame, pumpkin), fruits (raisins, cranberries, peppers, olives), herbs (chives, rosemary, thyme) and spices – the options are endless.

Preparations

  1. In a bowl mix together all of the ingredients minus the egg.
  2. Form them into snowball shapes, then use your thumb to push a hole through the center to form a bagel shape.
  3. Place them on a baking sheet and brush with eggwash.
  4. Bake in the oven for 30 minutes at 400° or until golden brown.

Tips

  • These bagels are perfect for school lunches, and so good they can just be eaten as is.
  • Store them in an airtight container or ziplock unrefrigerated and they will be good for a few days.
